*FTC Disclaimer: I received a copy of Midnight Eclipse from Arial Burnz in exchange for an honest review. I have in no way been influenced by the author and/or publisher’s generosity. You can’t fake these stars, baby!
Broderick MacDougal follows the familiar yearning of his soul to a fierce warrior who is as seductive as a siren at sea—and she is just as deadly. Broderick not only finds himself in the midst of an ancient war of shape shifters, but the devious Cordelia Harley has re-entered his life and has a few of her own surprises.
Born into a hated race of Norse werewolves, Celina Hunter knows all too well the dangers of trusting anyone other than her two brothers. And yet the survival of her family hinges on trusting the strangely familiar Broderick MacDougal, a natural enemy of her kind…yet one her tribe’s Shaman advisers confirm is her soul mate. Enemy or not, Celina slips into the spell of this vampire’s promises of eternal love, gambling with all she holds dear.
Broderick and Celina are bound by a curse, but having come this far through the centuries, Broderick is not about to risk his chance at having his soul mate for eternity. The price, however, may be more than Celina is willing to pay as there is more at stake than just her immortal soul.
First Line: “‘Are you certain?’ Rasheed tossed his book aside and rose from his chair on the balcony overlooking the lower level of their parlor. In two strides, he was gripping the wrought iron rail and assessing his companion below… ‘Absolutely. I saw Broderick MacDougal and his new wife actually cure her father…'”
Let’s do a brief recap of the awesomeness:
Book 1: Broderick meets his soulmate Davina. Rick fakes-it-til-he-makes-it as gypsy and the evil puppet master, Angus, is after blood! Read the review here.
Book 2: We follow Broderick and Davina’s sword fighting daughter… as she gets kidnapped by – you guessed it – Angus. Read the review here.
Book 3: Since Broderick is a vampy-vamp, he has the pleasure of watching all his loved ones pass away as he lives on. His soul mate Davina dies and Broderick spends 80 years in lonely agony. But wait… Davina gets reincarnated into the feisty fire witch, Monika! Hot dayumm! Eternal love at its finest, my friends. Read the review here.
And now we are on Book 4. BOOK 4, PEOPLE! And I bet you thought it couldn’t get any better, right?
Monika (aka Davina V2.0) has been taken from Broderick by the Army of Light (also known as The Illuminati). The scoundrels try to burn her, but how do you burn a fire witch? Well, you can’t. So instead they drown her. Davina’s soul is gone, yet again. It’s another loss and Rick must face life alone muddling his way toward fulfilling prophesy; what’s new, chickaboo. Mind you, this is the prologue… THE PROLOGUE! We aren’t even in chapter 1 and look at the mess Broderick is in already! This torment IS going to end, right? Someday Broderick is going to meet Davina in her final form, RIGHT? Well… it ain’t today.
Avast ye! You landlubbers are about to meet the next chapter of prophecy: pirates.
Now, we are introduced to Broderick 102 years after book 3. His sexy vampy heart can’t handle Davina being reincarnated again, only to lose her once more. Why didn’t he just turn her into a vamp the first time and live happily ever after in fields of lavender?
Well, that would go against prophesy! #Dur
Aye matey, but the torture has only just begun. Davina has been reincarnated into a beautiful shape shifter named Celina. Tempting. Tantalizing. Totally delicious.
Celina (aka Davina V3.0) is not fond of Broderick. He is the enemy. As Celina’s front dissipitates and she lets Broderick flood her mind, her protective brothers have other plans. By “other plans” I mean: they want Rick dead.
“Once we’ve taken care of our own…” He glared at Celina. “Kill him!”
YaaaaOK, bro bro. Methinks you’re taking this a little overboard. If you want a stab, you’re going to have to stand in line because Angus is BACK (has he ever left??) and Broderick’s doomed fate continually adds enemies to his list. Just let this man love his WOMAN!
Now that we’re discussing Angus… Oooo Angus – our favorite villain – makes quite an appearance in this fourth chapter of prophesy. We are given a taste of Angus’ upbringing, his emotions (yes, he has feelings), and I can’t help but empathize with this demonic man.
Perhaps he should just lay here and let the cold take him. No one wanted him anyways. What did it matter?
I WANT YOU, Angus! For the love of GAAAWD I used to despise this man. Now, all of sudden, I’m rooting for him? What the–
Broderick has Celina, Celina’s brothers, Cordelia (the woman I like to think got him into this mess in the first place), and Angus to distract him, but he MUST focus! He must somehow fulfill prophesy that states:
The power of day and night will be in the hands of the Protector so that he might fulfill his destiny.
Hu what-a-what? So… what… He needs to be an astronaut? I swear, these prophecies need to be more specific. Although, Broderick in space would be rather fantastic.
Meep meep. Broderick has landed.
*snort* Yah, landed himself into a pool of TROUBLE! How is Broderick going to hold both day and night? He’s a vamp, so nighttime is obviously under control. What is he going to do about Celina? She knows about Davina and Broderick’s eternal mission to be with her forever, but is Celina OK with being Davina V3.0 knowing she’ll be reincarnated again? (IF she gets reincarnated again… Broderick is taking a chance that she will be… but should he?) Is all of this just a trick to fulfill Broderick’s next steppingstone in prophecy?
You reminded me tonight that we are soulmates. Your heart has not just been branded upon mine since my first dream… it has been branded upon my soul.
Midnight Eclipse – and the entire Bonded By Blood Chronicles – emanates eternal love. Midnight Eclipse is, yet again, another perfect portrayal of a fugacious love fighting to exist. Arial Burnz is immaculate; I love her writing style, her mind, her words. All of Davina’s reincarnations embody characteristics that Broderick originally fell in love with… and I am ADDICTED TO THAT.
In Book 1 Broderick pursues Davina and she resists, in Book 3 Broderick is the one who resists Monika, and here in Book 4 Broderick pursues Celina even harder now that he better understands prophesy. It’s a beautiful cyclic torture. A sexy tug-of-war.
Broderick is faced with another test, another opportunity, to love Davina’s soul through Celina until he can fulfill prophesy and have Davina forever. But how long can his resolve last before he botches up prophesy and erases all possibility of having Davina in her final form for eternity? Time is running out. It’s been, what… nearly centuries now?
Well. Lemme just say: If I knew I’d be reincarnated only to fall in love with this man 100 times… send me to the planks already!
Yo ho yo ho eternal love for me.
