*FTC Disclaimer: The Golden Key Chronicles was given to me as a gift from AJ Nuest with no expectation of a review in return. YaaaOK this book is freaking FANTASTIC… Ima review it. I have in no way been influenced by the author and/or publisher’s generosity. Helios presents thee with a sky full of stars, baby!
The key would unlock his future and the safety of his kingdom, but he never imagined the sorceress would unlock his heart…
When antiques restorer, Rowena Lindstrom, purchases an armoire containing a hidden key and a “magic” mirror, she believes the handsome warrior prince waiting on the other side is some sort of elaborate joke. Yet she cannot deny their connection seems bound by more than just the key and, as her love for Prince Caedmon grows, she agrees to join him in his realm.
Prophecy intervenes in a way neither of them could have expected. Lost and alone in the Austiere Kingdom, Rowena struggles to find her place, and though she fights the heated advances of the dangerous Prince Caedmon, the attraction between them brings challenges much deeper than her troubled heart can recall.
After two torturous years held captive in the dungeons of Seviere’s Keep, Prince Caedmon returns home with more than just lash marks lacing his back. He now retains the secret behind the key, and is the only one who understands its grim connection to his beloved Rowena. Yet their enemies to the north are merely one of many obstacles determined to see them fail and, to escape the clutches of the evil Wizard Gaelleod, Rowena and Caedmon flee to the future–the one place Caedmon’s worst fears are confirmed. Everything he loves stands to be ripped from his grasp.
Join Caedmon and Rowena as they embark on an epic journey bound by fate, and struggle to unravel the significance behind an age-old prophecy in The Golden Key Chronicles.
First Line: “What in the name of Zeus ever possessed her to buy such a ghastly armoire?”
The Golden Key Chronicles is the definition of a once in a lifetime read.
I was transported into another realm where I uncovered new places, and ancient secrets. While falling through this polychromatic fog, I re-met myself and revisited my past decisions, my past relationships. I have a refurbished outlook on life. A renewed appreciate for unconditional love.
I will forever cherish AJ Nuest and how she sculpted these words into a masterpiece. The undulations, the conflict, the devious betrayals… My heart is marble in your hands, AJ.
Let’s just skip the preamble! Goddesses’ tits this book is amazing!
Rowena is the owner of an antique shop. Recently out of a bad relationship with Douche Lord, Brad, she guards her heart. Instead of focusing her mind on relationships, she puts all of her attention on this mysterious armoire that found its way into her shop.
She was supposed to be the best antiques dealer in Chicago. She was renowned for having the sharpest eye in the business. Yet this impulse buy far exceeded the standards of even an amateur restorer.
Rowena regrets her decision to acquire such a horrendous piece of junk… Then she finds the mirror inside and this golden key. Through this mirror she sees a devilishly handsome man (ooh la la). Of course the mirror is a giant smart-screen — a total scam — and this man is some local theatre actor. Leave it to her friends to mock her and this stupid purchase.
What’s a girl to do when she’s being pranked? Well, Rowena decides to plays along.
(Enter stage right) Prince Caedmon.
WhoooEEE welcome to Kingdom Austiere! Let me introduce you to Prince Caedmon, my friends. Are you looking for a loyal man? Mayhap a warrior?
Prince Caedmon is the son of a gypsy and King of Austiere. Caedmon is the man Rowena unexpectedly has the hotty-totties for! But he is totally trolling her, right? Who is this PEASANT talking to her through some magic mirror? The last thing she needs is another Brad.
With time, Rowena realizes that Caedmon is not an actor, and his realm really does exist. *snort* Like who would ever believe her? For some reason Caedmon’s world things she is this sorceress that can save their kingdom. Funny, because she’s no sorceress! Yet now she is faced with a choice: to stay with her tall dark and blandsome life, or go to Kingdom Austiere.
My heart is yours, sweet Rowena. As surely as it beats in my chest, you own it. Now and forever, I pledge to you my love, lest you choose to join me or not.
Of course Rowena chooses to join him! She’s gotta get her some of dat gypsy juju!
(Enter from the depths of hell) Prince Braedric.
Braedric (Douche Lord V2.0) is the blueblood brother of Caedmon, and the rightful successor to the throne. Well, the successor hasn’t been chosen yet, but it’s obviously going to be Brad Braedric, right?
Ooo and Braedric is t-r-o-u-b-l-e. Once Rowena crosses into their realm, Caedmon must flee to battle, and Braedric decides to make it his life’s mission to sabotage his own kingdom. Caedmon is captured and tortured for two years, and in the meantime Rowena is alone, trapped, and caged in this awful place. How did she let herself get here? Who are these entitled men who try to walk all over her? She wants to learn to fight back. And she does, training amongst the royal guard and preparing to defend herself. Come what may!
(Finally) Caedmon returns home, desperate to see his love, but of course Rowena is pissed off beyond all measures. Yet her heart still yearns for him. Now, Caedmon is faced with the challenge of proving his love to Rowena… again.
How can Rowena forgive Caedmon for leaving her? Can Caedmon convince Rowena to stay? What is Caedmon going to do when Rowena goes back to her old life in the future? Because she does leave.
Gaawd and who does this Prince Braedric think he is?! This is not the end of him, friends. Prince Braedric is an ogre in the woods waiting to stab you in the back. Multiple times.
We haven’t even touched book 2 yet! Staaahp.
The Golden Key Chronicles is enchanting, devious, and gripping. It is a perfect depiction of the intermingling of the past and the present and the cyclic journeys we take in life. Rowena and Caedmon find love twice, Rowena faces loss twice, Braedric is successful in his ploys two times too many. Heck, I loved this book so much I read it two times back-to-back!
Like I said, this is a
once twice in a lifetime read.
AJ Nuest gives us love in its purest form. Fate and destiny intertwine as Rowena and Caedmon face prophecy and battle the chronicles of time in order to save each other. Strangers, to lovers. Lovers, to partners in all things. Caedmon’s love for Rowena is spell-binding. In return, Rowena willingly sacrifices everything she has (and I mean everything). AJ Nuest will dehydrate your heart, only to submerge it in tears of the nine.
COME WHAT MAY, PEONS! ⚔
