*FTC Disclaimer: I received a copy of Undeniable Lover from Rosalie Redd in exchange for an honest review. I have in no way been influenced by the author and/or publisher’s generosity. You can’t fake these stars, baby!
The first rule of warfare – don’t fall in love with your enemy.
Loyal to a fault, shape-shifting Lemurian warrior Saar will do anything for his king and sports a horrific scar across his face to prove it. Shunned by females of his own kind due to his gruesome features, he swore off intimate relationships long ago. When he rescues his sworn enemy from certain death, he must decide between his loyalty to his best friend or the female that has clawed her way into his heart.
Bear shape-shifter Kaelyn keeps males at arm’s length as those she loves tend to die. To complicate matters, she now works for the enemy she once despised. When she encounters the sexy male warrior she fought on the battlefield, she’s drawn to him for all the wrong reasons and must fight her desire for him if either is to survive.
First Line: “Saar curled his fingers around the hilt of his sword and pressed his lips to the cool steel blade. The skin around his mouth puckered, a constant reminder of the age-old, disfiguring scar that tracked from his cheek to his chin.”
We are immediately thrust into the action in this standalone novel! Saar is sparing with his king, Noeh. A king he loves, a king he has vowed to protect.
Saar is the definition of a militia man. Loyal to a fault, devoted, honorable. Am I swooning? Yes.
Within the first few pages we learn that Saar is Noeh’s best warrior. He is the Commander in Arms. We also learn that Saar and Noeh have a very unique relationship. King and servant, yet there is a respect of brothers.
We are also introduced to Kaelyn. Well, Saar and Kaelyn haven’t met each other officially yet, but on the battle field, Saar couldn’t get himself to kill her. She was too…delectable. 😉 Basically, he had a moment of weakness and he can NOT afford any types of weakness when his king is involved.
Rosalie Redd has officially introduced our first conflict. Obligation versus desire. Oooo this woman knows how I like it!
Saar’s mind drifted to the beautiful female. Nothing good could come from seeing her again. She was the enemy. By all rights, he should kill her. He ground his teeth. I pray I don’t find her. Yet, a part of him deep inside wanted nothing more.
Oh but he finds her.
Kaelyn has to be my favorite bear shape shifting female, like, ever. 🐻 Kaelyn, like Saar, is loyal and unfortunately she is being forced to fight for a side she doesn’t want to fight on.
If only war was accommodating for love, eh? Oh but it can be, especially for these two.
Saar and Kaelyn find each other under the most inconvenient circumstances. Rosalie Redd is giving us enemies to lovers unlike anything I’ve read before.
The memory of him asking her to unbraid her hair in the Keep’s cell resurfaced full force. The reason then…to release her from her physical cell. The reason now…to release her from her mental one. They’d come a long way since then, and without a doubt, she’d fallen for him.
I’ve fallen for him too!
We follow both Kaelyn and Saar as they are faced with unbearable decisions that are meant to tear them apart. But what about that loyalty Saar has for his king? You know, the king he would die for?
“How could I ever trust that you wouldn’t betray me?” Kaelyn’s words tracked through his mind, followed by his father’s. “Does your loyalty lie with the future king or yourself?”
Betrayal, doubt, fears. Undeniably saucy! I’m not sure how Saar is going to get out of this abyss he’s dug for himself, but he’d better do it fast before he loses Kaelyn forever.
Undeniable Lover is immaculate and descriptive. I was sent to another time, another realm where love exists alongside war, and hatred quickly evolves into a burning desire.
★★★★ ½ stars for Saar and Kaelyn.
